Sick Saturday

The weather is beautiful, the dogs and everyone are very happy- except me. After a wonderful dinner last night- taking my mom out to "Vetri"- I was still doing great.lol Woke up this morning and to my surprise I was stilllllll doing great. That was until the late morning where it seemed all of my luck had turned against me and my 11 year streak of not ever having vomited was murdered. Ah.. So now that we have established that your morning was obviously better than mine... Let me tell you the rest of my daily plans that had been compromised, due to my body's' urge to sabotage me by making me blow chunks...The car was packed with canned produce to be delivered at the "Philabundence" Squash Hunger Day.
So what have I learned? That even when I try to do something nice- feed the hungry- I get ill!
FANTASTIC!
But I will tell you this- There is nothing like wasting away the day in bed.. well minus the sick part.

Hope you had a wonderful Saturday and a wonderful rest of the weekend.

XO, Carter

Levian Bakery

LEVAIN BAKERY
This bakery in NYC, which has been featured on the "Bobby Flay's Throw down", serves up some serious monsters for cookies. These cookies, easily, weigh a pound each. I placed an IPhone on the plate so you could see how big each cookie is. But the width of the cookie wasn't all that was impressive. These cookies are super thick and dense! I ordered one of each - Chocolate Chocolate chip cookie, Chocolate Peanut Butter cookie, Oatmeal Raisin cookie and then their famous Chocolate Chip Walnut cookie- that was featured as the "Throw Down cookie" of choice. These cookies are so yummy-this bakery is not fooling around. But could not be devoured in one sitting- so I opted to freeze the left overs and they are still soo good. Order your own today for the weekend!

Last days o' Summer

The temps are dropping, the sun is realigning back the power of its rays and the trees are starting a new story of colors on their leaves- this is all true.... unless you live in the south. I just came back from my old home State of Florida and the sun was still going strong. There would even be an almost 25 degree difference between FL and PA while I was down there. Being in Florida was nice, it is always nice. But I think I am ready to just move on. I always go down for doctors because once you find a great doctor, why look for more? But I think it is time for me to cut the ties and find some others. Ya know?

While On the plane- I am a big fan of the magazines. I always mark the pages that show things that I would die to have. I fold the corners - then when my mom reads it, she will see ALL of the items with out me bugging her every 3 pages saying "oh and I love that too"
Just half way through the magazine- I would already be mega broke haha! Broke but cute...The philosophy of everyone in Hollywood right now.

Painting Project

This table has been my latest project. The table before was just a plain dark wood table. With my Mom's "ok", I took charge and sanded till my arms felt like they were about to fall off. I never do patterns and really am surprised that I had so much fun executing this table. I take my hat off to all of those artists that do patterns because they are deceivingly simple. Where I struggled? I struggled with making all of the colors work and "flow". I also struggled with having a even (or at least balanced) looking table of patterns that had a coherent blend of linear and horizontal lines. What's unexpected about this table are the back of each leg of the table. When you walk around the table the bright blue and yellow coral reefy zebra print thing that I came up with sneaks up on you. The reason I did not paint the full top of the table was because the part of the table left unpainted is actually leather haha. I will be painting two more tables just like this - but they are both less than half the size of this huge table that I did.I will keep you posted.

The greatest compliment is the fact that this table has taken a prominent place in the house and brightens every ones day.

Carter

DISTRITO

DISTRITO

The big downstairs. So cool that you can have your lunch/dinner/ brunch in this Volkswagen bug.
Distrito is a Modern Mexican restaurant and one of 6 restaurants in Philly that is owned by Iron Chef Jose Garces. So far I can knock 2 of his restaurants off my list- 4 more to go haha.

Upstairs.

While you walk up the stairs to the top level you will not have to strain to see this immense collection of Mexican Wrestler masks or aka"nacho libre" masks..

NOW for the FOOD- my Lunch tasting menu style.

p.s: I could only take pictures of 2 out of 4 course because I end up diving into the food before I could even stop to grab the camera. You missed (the first) the shrimp Ceviche with banana chips and the dessert- Chocolate Flan and Tres Leches cake.

Simple but perfect- Water lol

Yellow Tail fish stick with a avocado and pickled cabbage.

This flat bread looks amazing tastes amazing but has a big secret, a smutty secret. CORN SMUT: no idea? see below...

Corn smut is a fungus that grows out of the corn kernel. Corn smut looks creepy, smells creepy but tastes really good. Distrito made a smut paste that makes the flat bread look black on the edges.

Enchiladasssssssssssss.

YUM,
Carter
